Bringing hula and music to the world
Kumu Nani Kamaliʻi-Chang and Aunty Mei-Ling Alapaʻi Chang are renowned Hawaiian hula dancers and musicians. Both have lived around the world teaching and performing hula and music, and they are now settled in Las Vegas, NV.
Kumu Nani's hula lineage is from Kumu Hula Hokulani DeRego. Kumu Hokulani DeRego came from the hula line of Lokalia Montgomery, the same line as her hula brother, the late O’Brian Eselu. Kumu Nani began her hālau, Ka Pā Hula Nā Pua O Kamaliʻi, while she lived in Houston, TX. Kumu Nani keeps her hālau location in Houston with the help of her alakaʻi (class leaders). Kumu Nani is also widely known for being a world-class musician and expert Hawaiian crafts artist.
Aunty Mei-Ling Alapaʻi Chang comes from a long line of Hawaiian musicians and Polynesian dancers. She continues these traditions today as a teacher and performer alongside Kumu Nani. Aunty Mei-Ling is most known for her music with the group Kanilau. People recognize her voice wherever she goes.
These days, you can find both Kumu Nani and Aunty Mei-Ling performing weekly at a local Hawaiian restaurant in Las Vegas. Contact them about hula classes or to inquire about hiring them for Hawaiian shows/performances!
